The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video this week, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season introduces a large cast of personalities residing in Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement constraining Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the creator commented recently. "But I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how quickly season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for unfolds now.
"I believe people are going to get a lot out of it," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — particularly in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about the new season," she says. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
