Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and dark forces expanding in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group features the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as important members in House Halovar could help the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Seekers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
