19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, managing just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents his maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt from March of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, including in Halle earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted commentators to wonder if his ability to play at the elite level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

Moutet saved four initial break points in a tight deciding set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net area, with his opponent failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
